Law enforcement agencies are sometimes faced with the need to temporarily increase their communications capabilities or to deploy the ability to monitor critical incidents remotely. These needs could be realized by the destruction of a communication tower, or simply the inefficiency of current infrastructure, etc…
On May 28, 2009, SRTBRC funded the acquisition and testing of two low-cost aerostats that have the ability to lift a payload of communications/monitoring equipment. These systems have been transferred to the Border Outreach Center in Austin, TX for testing and evaluation.
